A highly decorative & sculptural glaze that creates a rich, volcanic texture in the firing.
Designed for high-fired stoneware and porcelain, this glaze develops a dynamic, cratered surface — alive with movement and depth.
On the tile see it combined with our wonderful “STONE” glaze over grey stoneware.
Firing Range
1240–1280°C (Cone 7–9, ≈ 2265–2336°F)
For the look seen in my work, I recommend firing to 1260°C (Cone 8, ≈ 2300°F).
At around 1260°C (≈2300°F), the surface becomes beautifully balanced: the bubbles soften and melt just enough, creating a smooth, almost silky texture without sharpness.
At the lower range (1230–1250°C / ≈2250–2280°F), the result is more dry.
Fired beyond 1270°C (≈2320°F), the glaze becomes more fluid and the bubbles may melt.

This glaze is lead- and cadmium-free, however the highly textured surface is not recommended for functional food-contact areas unless used as a decorative edge, as seen in my pottery.
Important:
You must mix the entire dry bag at once.
Because the glaze is blended by hand, the ingredients are not uniform in small scoops. Mixing only part of the bag will produce uneven results.
While most glazes are mixed at a 1:1 water-to-powder ratio, for a thicker consistency and more pronounced texture we recommend using less water — approximately 0.7:1.
Apply a thick layer for the characteristic sculptural, cratered texture.
Suitable methods:
• dipping
• pouring
• spraying
• brushing
