PRODUCTION TIME

Laima Ceramics is an author-led studio run by two potters, where every piece is handmade from start to finish.

Due to the nature of ceramic production, the estimated production time for a small wholesale order is a minimum of 4 weeks from the start of production. Timelines may vary depending on seasonality, order volume, and current studio workload.

We value transparency and will always provide a clear and realistic production estimate at the time of order confirmation.

On average, the studio produces approximately 300 small to medium-sized pieces per month. Each item passes through a four-stage process — drying, first firing (bisque), glazing, and final firing — which together require at least four weeks to complete under optimal conditions.

Handcrafted Nature

Minor variations in size, shape, colour, and surface are a natural and expected characteristic of handmade ceramics.

We take great care to ensure that all items within a set are as closely matched as possible. However, due to the handmade process, an exact match to previously purchased items cannot be guaranteed.

Many of our glazes are special-effect glazes, meaning that variations in matte or glossy finish, texture, and colour depth may occur from piece to piece. These subtle differences are an integral part of the material and contribute to the individuality of each object.

Explore our Archive — a showcase of collections created over the past 12 years of crafting functional, artisan pottery for restaurants, galleries, and design lovers around the world.

Each piece is entirely handmade using one of the following traditional techniques:

  1. Slab rolling – used for plates and open bowls in a variety of sizes

  2. Wheel throwing – for cups, mugs, bowls, teapots, jugs, carafes, vases, and more

  3. Coiling & hand-building – ideal for light objects, large-scale floor vases, and flower planters

  4. Slip casting – used for the Yutori range, allowing for refined shapes and consistent forms while preserving the handmade feel

COPYRIGHT: Photography, Descriptions & Branding

All photography, written descriptions, and designs created by Laima Ceramics are part of our original creative work and brand identity.

To preserve the integrity of our work, the following terms apply:

  • Product images, descriptions, and designs may be used only with clear credit:
“Design and photography © Laima Ceramics”

  • Materials may not be edited, altered, or used under alternative branding.

  • When sharing our images on social media, please credit and tag @laimaceramics

Retail partners who wish to be included in our official list of Laima Ceramics stockists are welcome to share their store details with us. We are always happy to highlight partners who represent our work.

Maker’s Mark & Collaborations

Each Laima Ceramics piece carries the blessing “Laima”, meaning “Happiness” in Latvian — the name of both our brand and our founder, Laima Piliņa.

All items are signed with our circular maker’s mark (10 mm diameter), symbolising authenticity and craftsmanship.

Co-Branding & Collaboration Stamps

For approved collaborations, an additional custom stamp may be applied to the base of each piece, featuring the text:
“Special Edition for / & / for”, personalised with your brand name.

To proceed, please provide your brand logo as a vector file, following the specifications below. Our in-house graphic designer will prepare the stamp for production.

Fees:

  • Stamp design & wooden stamp production: €100 (one-time fee)

  • Logo application fee: +10% of order total

Stamp & Logo Specifications

To ensure clean and legible impressions in clay, the following guidelines apply:

  • Circular logo: diameter 1.2–2 cm

  • Rectangular brand name:

    • maximum length 3 cm

    • height 0.6–1 cm

  • No design elements smaller than 2 mm, as fine details may not reproduce clearly

  • The stamp must be suitable for use on semi-hard clay

For larger items (e.g. plates), a larger stamp may be possible — up to 4 cm in either direction.

Please contact us to discuss your design. We are happy to guide you through preparing your logo file for production.

White-Label Policy

Laima Ceramics does not offer existing collections as white-label products.
Each collection carries a distinct design language and creative identity rooted in authorship, craftsmanship, and material integrity.

For larger production projects, we are happy to offer design development support and collaborate on creating a custom line tailored specifically to your brand.

Small-Batch Custom Orders

Laima Ceramics offers flexible small-batch custom production, ideal for restaurants, cafés, and boutique projects seeking a distinctive, handcrafted result.

Custom work is developed in dialogue with our existing collections, allowing for thoughtful adjustments while preserving the recognisable Laima Ceramics aesthetic.

A co-branding option is available, where your brand name appears alongside ours on each piece for a +10% fee on the order total.

Development of new glaze colours requires additional time.

Design Collaborations & Range Creation

Laima Ceramics collaborates with selected brands, design studios, manufacturers, and hospitality groups to develop bespoke ceramic ranges for long-term, scalable production — typically well beyond 1000 pieces per item, and intended for ongoing or repeated manufacturing rather than one-off releases.

This service is designed for partners seeking author-led design, intellectual property development, and production-ready collections that can be scaled across retail, hospitality, or international distribution.

Designing a ceramic range from scratch is an in-depth creative and technical process, developed in close collaboration and with a long-term perspective.

The process may include:

  • Collection concept and visual direction

  • Form, proportion, and functional design

  • Prototyping and mould creation

  • Glaze palette development

  • Sampling, testing, and production setup for scalable manufacturing

Each project is custom-scoped, depending on the number of items, technical complexity, production method, and intended scale.

For collaborative partnerships, licensing or royalty-based agreements may be discussed, where design ownership is retained by Laima Piliņa.

ALL Collaboration Options

1. Co-Branding of Existing Collections
We do not offer full private labelling of our existing Laima Ceramics collections (Moon, Stone, etc.), as these form the core of our studio’s creative work.
However, we do offer co-branding, where your brand name can appear alongside ours for a 10% fee on the order total.

This option is ideal for boutique retailers or interior studios who wish to present Laima Ceramics pieces within their brand story while maintaining transparency of origin.

2. Design Development from Your Sketches

For brands that already have their own product designs, sketches, or technical drawings, we offer full sampling and production support.

3. Full Concept & New Collection Design

For brands wishing to create an entirely new collection from scratch, we offer complete concept and form development in our studio.

Best suited for established brands with clear production goals and large order volumes.

Production Options

  • Handmade studio production: recommended for smaller runs (under 300 items per design).

  • Molded production with our partner studio: suitable for larger quantities (500+)

Our studio is located in the Latvian countryside and run by two women passionate about timeless, grounded design. Visitors are welcome by appointment.
