Sculptural Lava "GREY" Glaze Powder

from €38.00

A beautiful, highly decorative glaze that creates a rich, volcanic texture in the firing.
Works beautifully on high-fired stoneware and porcelain.

In my opinion it looks best on darker stoneware bodies, on porcelain and lighter stoneware the texture appears finer.

Firing Range

1200–1260°C (≈ 2192–2300°F)
For the look seen in my work, I recommend firing to 1260°C (≈ 2300°F).

Food Safety Note

This glaze is lead- and cadmium-free, however the highly textured surface is not recommended for functional food-contact areas unless used as a decorative edge.

Sold in Powder Form Only

Mixing Guidelines

Important:
You must mix the entire dry bag at once.
Because the glaze is blended by hand, the ingredients are not uniform in small scoops. Mixing only part of the bag will produce uneven results.

Application

Apply a thick layer for the characteristic sculptural, cratered texture.

Suitable methods:
• dipping
• pouring
• spraying
• brushing

Expected Effects

This lava glaze will create a volcanic surface on your piece.
We recommend experimenting with:

• thickness of application
• number of coats
• firing cycles & temperatures

Always protect your kiln shelves well.
As with all specialty glazes, testing is essential — results vary with application, temperature, clay body, and firing schedule.
