Large fruit platter masterclass
A slow, creative session in slab-building, surface design & glaze exploration
Begin your experience with a warm welcome tea and a guided tour of our rural ceramics studio. You’ll see where the magic happens, learn about different clay bodies, and enjoy a short show & tell of our glaze collection — from crystalline bronzes to volcanic textures and soft stone finishes. This gentle introduction helps you choose the perfect glaze for your future platter and inspires ideas before you begin working.
This masterclass is a focused yet relaxed session, ideal for beginners and returning makers alike. You will create a large sculptural fruit platter (approx. Ø 40 cm) using slab-rolling techniques while learning to shape, refine, and design a functional statement piece.
What We’ll Do
1. Welcome Tea & Studio Tour
settle in with tea
tour of the studio & tools
overview of clay bodies, firing process & textures
2. Glaze Show & Tell
discover how our special glazes develop on different surfaces
learn about:
lava glaze
bronze glaze
stone glaze
choose your glaze for your finished platter
3. Demonstration & Clay Prep
how to roll large slabs evenly
understanding thickness, drying behaviour, and structure
avoiding cracks and warping
4. Building Your Platter
slab rolling
forming and shaping large pieces
choosing your edge style: minimal, wavy, sculptural, or organic
refining the surface and rim
5. Texture & Details
adding subtle imprints or designing a clean finish
6. Final Touches & Glaze Planning

discussion about how your chosen glaze will interact with your form
Your platter will then dry slowly, be bisque-fired to 980°C, glazed in your chosen finish, and glaze-fired.
International shipping is available and typically takes around 1-4 weeks, depending on your location.
