Matte Crystals Glaze Powder — Add-On Layer for Textured Crystal Effects

from €35.00

This glaze is not used on its own.
It is a specialty top-layer designed to create a matte, crystalline texture on top of other high-fire glazes.

When applied in selected areas over another glaze, it encourages crystal development that softens gloss into matte, adds depth, and produces the distinctive crystalline breakup seen on the cups in the photos.

How to Achieve the Pictured Effect

To recreate the surface shown on the green cups:

  1. Apply the two-layer combination from the listing “Luminescent Pearl” (Green + Pink).

  2. While the glaze surface is still workable, apply a third layer of Matte Crystals Glaze in chosen areas.

  3. Where applied thickly enough, the base glaze will turn matte and crystals will form.

Food Safety Note

The matte crystalline glaze is not food-safe.
However, it is lead-free and cadmium-free.

Apply this glaze only to the exterior of functional pieces, as shown in your work.

Recommended Firing Range

1220–1280°C (≈ 2228–2336°F)
Cone 6–9 equivalent
Suitable for high-fired stoneware and porcelain.

Sold in Powder Form Only

Application Notes

• Best applied with a brush for controlled placement and a varied crystal pattern.
• Works beautifully as a subtle accent glaze or as a dramatic transformation layer.
• Crystal formation and matte conversion depend on thicknessunderlying glaze, and firing schedule.

Mixing Guidelines

  1. Begin with a 1:1 water-to-powder ratio.

  2. Sieve thoroughly.

  3. Add small amounts of water to adjust thickness if needed.

IMPORTANT:
You must mix the entire bag of glaze at once.
Since the glaze is blended by hand, partial mixing will result in uneven ingredient distribution and inconsistent results.

Yield reference:
500 g (≈ 1.1 lb) dry glaze → approx. 800 ml (≈ 27 fl oz) liquid glaze.

Safety Warning

• Do not ingest.
• Wear gloves when mixing or applying.
• Avoid eye contact; rinse thoroughly if contact occurs.
• Avoid glaze dust — never sweep dry powder; clean with a wet cloth only.
• Ensure adequate ventilation during firing.
