Wheel-Throwing Masterclass
A beginner-friendly private class designed for those curious to sit at the pottery wheel and feel the quiet alchemy of clay, movement, and breath.
This intimate workshop welcomes 1–2 students at a time, allowing space for slow guidance, personal rhythm, and a fully held learning experience.
Over the course of the session, you’ll be guided step-by-step through the fundamentals of wheel throwing:
Centring on the wheel — learning the essential technique that aligns clay and attention
Shaping simple forms — small bowls or cylinders, the foundation of most functional pottery
Refining movement and posture — how to work with clay rather than against it
You’ll also have access to selected LaimaCeramics pieces for inspiration — learning about shaping, trimming, glazing aesthetics, and the subtle wabi-sabi philosophy that guides the studio.
What’s Included
All necessary materials and tools (we throw with grey stoneware)
Time to throw up to 4 pieces
Firing and glazing for 1 selected piece in the LaimaCeramics signature glaze Stone
Small-group instruction (maximum 2 students)
2 hours of focused studio time
Once your chosen piece is finished, it will remain in the studio for trimming, glazing, and firing. Your final piece will be ready approximately 3 weeks after the class. Worldwide shipping is available if needed.
This class is ideal for:
anyone from absolute beginners to already somewhat experienced potters.
thoughtful gift-givers
anyone longing for a slow, grounding creative workshop
A Note on the Process
Wheel throwing can also be surprisingly physical: engaging the core, the arms, the breath.
We will cover essential theory and body mechanics to help you work with the clay, not against it — building confidence through understanding and repetition.
Your finished vessel will hold more than coffee or tea — it will hold the moment you trusted your hands and created something from earth.
Before You Join
To ensure an enjoyable experience, please note:
Short nails are required — longer nails make throwing very difficult.
Clothes may get dirty — clay washes out, but comfortable work clothing is recommended.
Bring an extra shirt if you plan to go to restaurant afterwards. We will provide an apron.
Long hair must be tied back for safety and comfort.
This class is suitable for adults and young makers aged 14+.
