Obvara - Baltic Raku bowl

from €35.00
Sold Out

These organic stoneware bowls bring together soft, rounded edges and a subtly textured base — minimalist in silhouette yet rich in character. Each piece is fired using the Obvara technique, an ancient Baltic process dating back to the 12th century.

During firing, the bowl is heated to 1650°F (899°C), removed from the kiln, and immediately dipped into a live yeast mixture before being plunged into water. This sudden alchemical shock seals the surface and creates the distinctive patterns: swirling smoke marks, soft speckles, flame-kissed shadows, and occasional golden blushing along the rims.

No two bowls ever echo the same surface. Each one carries its own story of fire, air, yeast, and water.

A Note on Use

Like raku ceramics, Obvara-fired pieces are not intended for food or water, as the surface remains decorative and naturally porous.
They are, however, fully functional as ritual objects and quiet companions in daily life.

Perfect for:
– altar or ceremony spaces
– displaying jewellery, crystals, or keepsakes
– incense, cones, or sage smudge
– minimalist décor and meditative corners
– photography props or styling pieces

Gentle hand wash only.

Height varies between 2–4 cm depending on diameter.
Choose your diameter:
7.5 cm (≈ 2.95 in)
9 cm (≈ 3.54 in)
11 cm (≈ 4.33 in)
13 cm (≈ 5.12 in)

Each bowl is one of a kind. Photos show only a small glimpse of the beautiful variation present in Obvara patterns.
