LAVA course
In this course, I guide you through three expressive ways of applying the textured volcanic LAVA glaze, each offering a different sculptural quality and surface dynamic:
1 — Dipping for full coverage
Learn how to submerge a piece into the lava glaze to create an even, continuous crater texture on a small bud vase.
2 — Brushing for decorative contrast
Use the lava glaze as an accent along the rim of a centerpiece, paired beautifully with the bronze glaze for a layered, atmospheric finish.
3 — Inlay technique
Create depth by removing the base glaze and applying the lava glaze as an inlay on a salad bowl, achieving striking contrast and dimensional texture.
4 — Troubleshooting & kiln mastery
An in-depth module that helps you understand glaze thickness, shelf height, firing accuracy, kiln mapping, colourant effects, clay-body reactions, and how to adjust your firing schedule for consistent, reliable crater formation.

Lesson 2: BUD vase with lava glaze
Combining glazing methods: pouring inside of bud vase and dipping the outside in thick lava glaze.

Lesson 4: Common Issues & Fixes
This troubleshooting module covers all key lava glaze challenges: thickness, shelf height, firing accuracy, overfiring, underfiring, runny or dry surfaces, hollow cavities, glaze peeling on dark bodies, and colourant effects. Includes my Rohde 200S firing schedule, tips for using cones, mapping your kiln, and adjusting temperature for consistent crater texture across different clay bodies and forms.

LEARN HOW TO APPLY THE GORGEOUS LAVA GLAZE
GLAZE CAN RUIN A PERFECT Pot…BUT IT CAN ALSO TRANSFORM AN AVERAGE BOWL INTO a FINE ART PIECE
I have destroyed ohh so many pots in my 11 years of pottery journey. Mostly it was due to badly applied/ wrongly fired/ ugly glaze. All that effort and resources to end up in the trash with all the rest of the steep “learning curve”... I hope your journey is more smooth and pleasant :)
In this course I share my experience and journey with you about working with this beautiful but tricky glaze. All the things I wish I knew in the beginning.
See you in class!
