A Room Within a Living Creative Sanctuary
Our newly finished private guest bedroom is more than simply a place to sleep — it is an extension of the story, spirit, and intention that lives within this land. Designed with care and reverence for natural materials, the room features a solid oak bed frame, soft linen curtains, oak hardwood flooring, and walls finished with naturally pigmented lime from Kreitz, creating a calm, breathable atmosphere that supports deep rest. The handcrafted door, made from reclaimed boards by NaiveWood, carries both warmth and history, quietly echoing the values of sustainability and craftsmanship that shape this entire place.
Located within our family home, right next to the Laima Ceramics pottery studio, this room serves as accommodation for guests who come here for residencies, internships, and group courses — people who arrive not only to learn, but also to reconnect with stillness, creativity, and themselves.
My Story & The Story of This Place
My name is Laima, and I grew up on this very farm, long before it became what is now our Artist Residency and Creative Sanctuary. These fields, buildings, and trees have shaped me as much as the clay I work with.
After completing my BA at Falmouth University in the UK in 2013, I returned home and set up my first pottery studio in my childhood house, beside my parents’ agricultural farm. As my practice grew, so did the need for space. In 2016, supported by my ceramic work and EU funding, I built the larger Laima Ceramics studio and transformed the attic into “The Loft” — a warm and welcoming accommodation for my students.
Then, in 2020, I was given the opportunity to take over the neighbouring 1878 red brick building — a 142-year-old presence that immediately revealed herself as alive, spirited, flirtatious, and full of gentle humour. I lovingly named her My Lady. From the very beginning, she communicated her wish to be filled with people whom she could shelter, nurture, and protect within her thick brick walls. My role was simply to listen and honour her vision.
Her restoration was profound and demanding: a new sewage system, water source, central heating, rewiring, roof, wooden windows and doors. Inside, we stayed true to natural materials and local craftsmanship — oak veneer flooring finished with flax oil, natural lime paint, linen curtains, reclaimed wood for doors and kitchen units, and handcrafted furniture from local artisans. In 2021, she opened her doors to her first students, and since then, her spaces have held countless moments of silence, creation, healing, and transformation.
Where Stillness Becomes Creative Flow
As a potter, I am mostly self-taught. My greatest teachers have been time, nature, and the quiet devotion to listening — to the clay, to the process, and to my own creative voice. This philosophy is woven into the essence of this place.
I believe deeply that environment is the foundation of creativity. To create well, we must first slow down. We must step away from noise, obligation, and constant stimulation. Our location is intentionally isolated — you must make an effort to arrive here — and we see this as a gift. In the absence of endless agendas, something important happens: the mind settles, the breath deepens, and a natural creative rhythm begins to unfold.
This place asks for care, respect, and presence. And in return, it offers grounding, inspiration, and the quiet support necessary for true artistic flow. It is a space of reciprocity, where every interaction — with the land, the studio, the materials — becomes a dialogue.
An Invitation
It is our divine right to create heaven here on Earth — a sanctuary where creativity flourishes, the soul feels safe, and beauty is allowed to emerge naturally.
By choosing to join me here, you are not only stepping into a nurturing environment, but also actively supporting the continued growth of this small corner of Earth that we cherish as our Creative Sanctuary.
I invite you to care for this place, and allow it to care for you in return.
Welcome.
